Job overview

Albemarle Independent College is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced teacher of A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics to join our highly successful Mathematics department to start in August/September 2024.

Albemarle has an exceptional reputation for achieving excellent A-level and GCSE results, considerably above the national average. Applicants should have at least 3 years' relevant teaching experience and be prepared to teach A-level and AS-level. The ability to teach A-level Further Mathematics will be advantageous.

Albemarle is based in the heart of Mayfair in central London, and all students progress on to universities in the UK, USA or Europe. Most students have high aspirations and so excellent exam results are a key USP of the college. Teaching is in small groups of no more than 8 students. The college is inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), from whom we have consistently received an outstanding commendation.

Days: 4 or 5 days/week

Salary: negotiable £36,000 to £51,250

Applicants seeking career progression and/or managerial responsibilities are encouraged to apply.

Newly qualified teachers will only be considered on the basis that they possess an A-level in Further Mathematics.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 28th April 2024; however, we encourage applications as soon as possible as the College reserves the right to complete the interview process at any time prior to the closing date.

A completed application form should be sent to emma@albemarle.org.uk, marked for the attention of the Principal, Beverley Mellon. A current CV and handwritten covering letter may be requested as part of the application process.

Albemarle Independent College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers, the receipt of an enhanced DBS certificate and other relevant registrations and clearance.

About Albemarle Independent College

Based in the heart of Central London, Albemarle College is an independent college offering broad GCSE and A-level programmes together with revision, retake and refresher courses.

Albemarle has a reputation for excellent A-level results. Every full-time, two year A-level student has achieved a 100% pass rate with grades of A, B or C. Students are taught very much by traditional methods, in small groups, concentrating on the skills needed to pass examinations and to be successful at university.

All tutors at Albemarle are subject specialists and most have experience as examiners. They are particularly successful with young people: able to motivate and communicate with them in ways which they understand.
Barriers are quickly broken down, enhancing the learning process

Class sizes at Albemarle are kept small - the average is four to five students, with a maximum of eight in each class. Tuition is very much centred on the students who are encouraged to participate fully and, most importantly, to think for themselves

Each student has an initial consultation with one of the Principals to establish goals and objectives, plan a strategy for sitting examinations (particularly important for modular courses) and to ensure that the correct subjects are chosen.
