Vision for Education is working in partnership with Milton Keynes College who is a leading Further Education College providing a comprehensive range of vocational, academic, professional and higher education courses. The College also delivers the Offender Learning and Skills Service (OLASS) Phase 4 contracts for East Midlands, West Midlands and South Central, providing education to 28 prisons across these 3 regions.
HMP Oakwood is located next to the existing HMP Featherstone and HMYOI Brinsford near Wolverhampton. HMP Oakwood is an up & coming forward thinking private prison, one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to 1,605 prisoners. It is a Category C resettlement prison for males over 21yrs.

The Education Department deliver a range of programmes to the offenders housed to support them at the start their learning journey as well as offering an employment academy to help with the resettlement. The College requires a motivated individual who will have industry experience, minimum level 3 subject specialism in dry lining/suspended ceiling fixing or a plastering and ideally with a teaching qualification level 3 or above.

As a Senior Trainer you will prepare, deliver training and assess to exceptional standards within the vocational workshops of the prison to L2 learners. Using your skills, knowledge and experience you will also provide specialist technical support to students and colleagues. This is a varied and demanding role and you will use both your industry and training knowledge to develop and support learners across this vocational programme.

As a successful candidate you will have:

  • A relevant qualification at Level 3 or above.
  • A good basic general education including GCSE (or) equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C or above.
  • A teaching qualification (PTLLS or above).
  • An assessor award.
  • Verifier awards (desirable).
  • Training or vocational experience in a relevant discipline/subject area and relevant up-to-date knowledge.
  • Proven track record of managing and supporting diverse groups of learners through nationally accredited programmes (desirable).
  • Experience of working with students who may have little experience of education and training (desirable).
  • Accuracy and precision in written presentation.
  • Possess a good working knowledge of Health & Safety issues.
  • Good level of IT literacy and willing to develop further.
