Job overview
Position: Service Manager
With a growing and diverse population, Bristol City Council is already looking to the future in its provision for children and young people with additional learning needs. Your skills could make all the difference.
As Bristol embarks on a journey to become a Learning City and education outcomes across the city continue to improve, we remain committed to narrowing gaps in achievement. That means improving the performance of vulnerable groups so that every child can thrive and reach their full potential. We‘re aiming high and want to be in the top 25% of local authorities for attainment and attendance among children and young people with additional learning needs.
As a Service Manager, you’ll take the lead in commissioning, quality assurance and systems management for additional learning needs. Success will depend on your ability to lead large-scale change, to translate strategy into action and to focus services on the needs of users as well as providers. Perhaps most importantly of all, you’ll need to inspire others and take colleagues, partners and peers on the journey with you.
A qualified professional with senior leadership experience in an educational context, you’ll have knowledge of the OfSTED inspection framework for local authority school improvement and safeguarding. You will have a good understanding of special educational needs (SEN) reforms, as well as the ability to address the needs of disadvantaged pupils through alternative provision. Experience of partnerships and multi-agency working would be an advantage.
For an informal discussion, contact Paul Jacobs, Service Director: Education & Skills on 0117 9224836. Further information about the role can be found on www.bristol.gov.uk/jobs.
The selection process will include an Assessment Centre, Service User panel and formal interview’
