Job overview

Fixed term contract: September 2015 – August 2016

35 hours per week, term-time only (including 5 training days), with the flexibility to work during the College holidays as required.

Learning Mentors will support students learning in whole class, small group and individual one-to-one situations. The College wishes to recruit four Learning Mentors who provide this support based on a faculty basis:

  • Mathematics, Computing & ICT Learning Mentor
  • Science Learning Mentor
  • Humanities and Languages Learning Mentor
  • Engineering and Technology Learning Mentor

Every class supported by the Learning Mentor will have two hours support; work will be set for these sessions by class teachers and it is planned that the LMs will ensure the work is completed to the best of students’ abilities, with the LM providing help as far as possible. Students may be given set questions to answer or the work may be more open-ended. On occasions, teaching staff may wish the time to be used by students to complete an assessment.

Targeted support will additionally be provided to those learners who struggle to grasp new ideas and concepts to enable these learners to keep up with the pace of learning required at the College. This more specialised and individualised help will be dependent on the precise nature of students learning needs.

These are new roles to the College and may suit:

A recently qualified graduate who wishes to spend a year in a Sixth Form College prior to starting a post graduate teaching qualification.

An individual wishing to ease down from the pressures of a full time professional role, may find these roles enjoyable.

An individual with lots of vocational experience in the sector eager to show students real life situations as to how theoretical skills being acquired are applied in the workplace, thereby bringing to life learning.

Closing Date: 9:00am Monday 13th July 2015
