Job overview

Do you wish to work in a school committed to the development of all staff in its care?

Do you wish to join an exceptional, aspirational and collaborative 6th Form team which is improving the life chances of all students?

Do you relish the challenge of enriching, transforming and supporting young students to make the best possible choices in life?

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 Christian non-denominational comprehensive academy for boys with a mixed sixth form. Due to the expansion of our 6th Form we have introduced this new role. Ours is a vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the opportunities and advantages of an inner city school. Having secured a very positive judgement in our recent OFSTED inspection we are looking to ensure the school is judged as ‘Outstanding’ in time for our 150th Anniversary. You, like us, will share a belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting. The sixth form outcomes have been excellent in recent years with our students regularly being in the best 10% for progress at A Level on a national level, and amongst the best in Westminster. Applications from candidates with a UKME/GMH heritage are encouraged.

‘In the sixth form, expert teachers offer clear instruction, and students feel strongly supported.’ OFSTED 2022

‘The sixth form is increasingly popular, and leaders use the school’s location to enrich learning and provide additional opportunities.’ OFSTED 2022

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and capable colleague, ideally a graduate or someone with equivalent experience in a secondary school to carry out the role of Student Support and Enrichment Officer. There is an additional responsibility point available for someone who is able to support the school’s ambitious Extended Project, Careers, Degree Apprenticeship and University agenda. You will be expected to supervise the Sixth Form study area and work with a key client list of Sixth Form students. You will carry out a variety of tasks including student facing and administrative tasks to support the school’s improvement. Having excellent record keeping and time management skills are essential for this role. You will need to employ a professional and assertive attitude whilst having an approachable manner delivered with good humour. Ability to be flexible and manage a variety of tasks whilst meeting deadlines is important.

This is a term time only position, including INSET days, plus one week in the school summer holidays for Sixth Form enrolment. The normal working week is 36 hours, 8.45am-4.45pm exclusive of meal times, Monday to Friday. There is a compulsory paid lunch duty. You will be required to attend parents evening and other before/after school events related to the Sixth Form. You will be responsible for monitoring and improving student attendance and punctuality. You will be expected to take a holistic view of student attendance, conduct and progress, liaising with school staff and external bodies, to effect positive outcomes. You like us, will share our belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting.

We believe in developing our staff and have a dynamic and supportive management team. We also spend much of our time looking at what we can learn from other successful schools.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an enhanced criminal record check via the DBS.

If you would like to discuss the role informally with the Head of Sixth Form or to arrange an appointment to visit the school please e-mail l.ellens@wcsch.com (Headteacher’s PA). You may also wish to visit our website www.wcsch.com to read more about the school.

Closing date: 15 April 2024, midday.

Interviews will take place on Thursday 25 April 2024.

We reserve the right to interview earlier than the closing date, so early applications are encouraged.
