Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our ‘Access’ team. You will teach English, Maths and Humanities to small classes of students in Y7 and Y8, who arrive at secondary school below NC Level 3 and who experience barriers to learning. Students in our small groups have a range of special education needs. We have a special facility for children with speech and language and communication difficulties; many of whom are in the access groups.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant, over-subscribed school on the south coast, near Brighton. Life at PCS does not stand still and we constantly seek innovative ways to improve standards. You will have the ability to motivate and inspire students and will be relentless in the pursuit of the highest standards of progress for every student, regardless of their ability. PCS is a happy, stimulating place to work and you will be joining a hard-working and dynamic staff team, who are supportive of one another and have a ‘can-do’ approach to challenges. We are no ordinary school and believe nothing is impossible! We pride ourselves on our excellent induction programme. We provide constant, high quality CPD and all staff are passionate about sharing good practice.

As a Co-operative Trust School we place values at the heart of everything we do and were proud to be awarded Level One Rights Respecting School status by UNICEF, who found our ethos of mutual respect ‘inspiring.’

If you are looking for an opportunity that will excite and challenge you, and have boundless energy and resilience, then we look forward to receiving your application. We would welcome applications from primary trained teachers.

If you would like to discuss this position, prior to submitting an application please email Nicky Bassett, Headteacher, nbassett@phcs.org.uk.

Closing date 8am Monday 13 April 2015, interviews Monday 20 April 2015.

Peacehaven Community School (PCS) is a proudly comprehensive school. This means diverse teaching opportunities, from supporting SEN students with complex needs - some of whom may also be gifted and talented and studying in our Baccalaureate stream – to working with learners who are new to English. Our approach to each child is the same; we want to support them to achieve their dreams. We don’t believe in barriers and we don’t believe in labels; we believe in hard work and high aspirations. If you are ambitious for yourself and for the students you teach, we would like to meet you.

PCS is a school that knows what it is: a place of learning.

PCS is a Swale Academies Trust school. Since November 2015 Swale Academies Trust (SAT) has been supporting the leadership of the school and converted to academy status on 1st September 2019. SAT has a proud history of supporting non-selective schools to out-perform grammar schools in Kent. Here in East Sussex, the Trust is applying those same principles to areas where students have not had the advantages given to their peers in more affluent areas.

We are an Ofsted rated 'Good' school.

We would welcome applications from teachers who want to develop their careers and explore the opportunities that working with an established academy trust brings.

This is your opportunity to join our inspirational and forward-thinking team, making a significant and measurable difference in improving the educational attainment of the children and young people in this inclusive community.
