Job overview

Bradfield College is seeking a highly motivated Sports Complex Duty Manager to lead our team of Recreation Assistants and Lifeguards, to achieve consistently high standards of customer service and safety in our Sports Complex and Tennis Centre.

Bradfield College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the country’s leading co-educational, independent schools. Our impressive Sports Complex and Indoor Tennis Centre operate as busy dual-use facilities, catering for both the College and external users.

Our Sports Complex Duty Managers are expected to be more than just ‘shift leaders’, as they also support the Operations Manager in developing and implementing procedures for Quality and Health and Safety. Your role will also involve staff training, performance monitoring, and management of specific administrative tasks.

Candidates will be able to demonstrate drive, determination, and a positive commitment to delivering high standards at all times. They will exhibit initiative, maturity, professionalism and an ability to remain calm under pressure, particularly when handling emergency situations or resolving conflicts in a constructive manner. Additionally, candidates will need to prove their management and communication skills, along with a detailed understanding of the day-to-day operations of a sports and leisure facility (dryside and wetside).

The ideal candidate will have some experience of shift management, customer service, health and safety protocols, lifeguarding, line management, and training. We expect candidates to hold qualifications in leisure management/operations (e.g. Pool Plant Operators), as well as health and safety certifications like NPLQ and First Aid at Work. However, these qualifications can be acquired during the probationary period.

You will form part of the duty shift rota, which covers the entirety of the opening hours of the complex, including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

In return, Bradfield College offers a variety of benefits, such as:

  • Free meal during the working day when College kitchens are open
  • Contributory Pension Scheme
  • Life Assurance Scheme
  • Subsidised membership of the College Sports Centre and Golf Club
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Health Cash Plan

Bradfield College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening as part of their application, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

About Bradfield College

Founded in 1850 by Thomas Stevens, and set in the village of Bradfield amidst unspoilt Berkshire countryside, Bradfield College enjoys a well-established reputation for being one of the country’s leading co-educational, independent schools through its provision of academic excellence and a well-rounded education.

The College welcomes pupils from Britain and overseas; the pupil body numbers approximately 770, comprising 480 boys and 290 girls from 13 to 18 years of age.

Boys and girls enter Bradfield at 13+ and many more join the College’s popular and vibrant Sixth Form, where they can choose to study either the IB or A Levels. Faulkner’s, a state-of-the-art boarding house, is specially designed to help all girls and boys make a happy and successful transition from prep school (we recruit from more than 70) to senior school; pupils then move into one of 11 senior houses.

We offer an unrivalled sports and activities programme for all our pupils which ensures that every girl and boy has the opportunity to develop valuable skills outside the classroom, wherever their interests lie.
