Summary of Role  

Education impact is an international consulting organisation headquartered in Paris, France. Our main area of work centres on the provision of consultancy services in the field of Education and ICT.

Since May 2013, Education Impact is involved in one of the leading Education transformation initiative in the Gulf region and provides strategic advisory and consultancy services for its delivery. Education Impact is looking for a STEM Advisor & Project Officer to support the development of this project.   

Location
This position is based in Dubai or in Europe with regular travels to Dubai.

Contract term
The contract term can be full-time, part-time or on contractual basis depending on the candidate profile.

Main Responsibilities
UAE schools are in process of considerable change with an aspirational vision for the education in 21st century and a reformed curriculum, which aims to make a major contribution to the National economy and the development of future citizens. A key priority is the development of the Science Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) agenda and the associated skills and capacities. In combination with an agenda for more modern student-centred education and a central role for technology there are a range of initiatives that exploit technology to improve teaching and learning in science and other STEM subjects and employ sensing, control and robotics to add value to a range of STEM contexts.

The STEM Advisor and Project Officer role focuses on the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of technology rich projects and programmes across in the STEM subjects across the public school sector in the UAE (except for Abu Dhabi).

The role is part of a team working to introduce new technologies, modern teaching approaches and eMaturity in schools.  The STEM Advisor and Project Officer will work with colleagues in other activities more broadly based across the curriculum.

The core components of the role are to:

  • Work on the development and implementation of technology rich approaches to teaching and learning in the STEM subjects.
  • Be responsible for detailed planning for equipping, training and implementation STEM technology projects.
  • Ensure effective and timely reporting to programme office and management team.
  • Engage and work with a variety of partners and stakeholders both from schools, MoE and from commercial suppliers.
  • Support the long-term strategic review of the use of technology in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
  • Work with others on the planning and implementation of adoption and change support in schools to ensure projects are successful.
  • Develop and disseminate guidance for projects.
  • Train and mentor those who support schools on such projects.
  • Oversee the monitoring, evaluation and analysis of projects and their impact.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Teaching and advisory or school support experience in science and STEM subjects. Successful teaching experience in science and possibly in one other area of the STEM curriculum.
  • Experience of supporting the adoption of the use of modern technologies in the STEM curriculum such as the use of sensing, control and robotics.
  • Experience of leading or supporting change in an educational environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of modern teaching and learning practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences and to write concise and evaluative reports.
  • Demonstrable experience working within a network of strategic stakeholders and partners.
  • Degree or equivalent.
  • Skilled and effective user of ICT.

Desired

  • Experience of training and supporting (including coaching and mentoring) teachers, school leaders, support staff and others in bringing about improvements in their practice.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the role and implementation of action research in schools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UAE K-12 schools sector.
  • Readiness to embrace emergent technologies.
  • Ability to speak Arabic.
