Job overview

Join us to create a school of the future

The University of Birmingham School is a high profile new school for our city. Our aim is simple: to transform the lives of our pupils by raising their aspirations and maximising their potential by accessing the widest possible range of educational opportunities. We want our graduates to go on to make a different to the lives of others as responsible citizens, loving partners and parents, excellent friends and great work colleagues.

In our brand new £23m building and drawing on the world-class facilities, resources and expertise of the University of Birmingham, we will offer our pupils a broad and balanced academic curriculum, a focus on character education, and a wide programme of enrichment opportunities delivered through an extended school day.

We have already received in excess of eleven hundred applications for Year Seven and over eight hundred applications for our first year in Sixth Form (of which four hundred wish to study Mathematics!) We now need to fulfil the ambition and trust of those children, parents and carers by recruiting the highest calibre of staff to help us to build our school community.

As such, we are seeking a qualified, talented and ambitious Mathematics graduate to specialise in teaching Mathematics. You will be committed to self-improvement and have the skill, expertise, creativity and experience to work closely with the subject leader to establish the department in our brand new school. The post arises due to the overwhelming demand at A Level where we plan to form the capacity to teach eight groups of AS Mathematics and one group of Mathematics / Further Mathematics.

We will have high expectations of you to be an outstanding role model, to ensure all of your students make the best possible progress, and to play a full role in School life. In return, we will support you, professionally and personally, and recognise your enhanced contribution through an enhanced package of pay and benefits. Starting salary will be between £23,750 and £33,500 per annum dependent upon experience with potential to progress, once in post, subject to performance. Further details are included within the Candidate Pack. There will be the opportunity for the successful candidate to apply for the potential second in Mathematics post which may be available from September 2016.

For more information about our School, please visit www.universityschool.bham.ac.uk. To apply, please complete our application form and upload to the HireWire system. Please also return our separately Equality Details Form to: a.cosimetti@bham.ac.uk. You are only able to upload one document to HireWire, so ensure this is your application form.

Closing date: 9am Tuesday 21st April

Please note that only the information provided on the application form will be used to shortlist applicants.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community. We are committed to safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure. Previous applicants may not be accepted.
