Inner London Pay Scale

“This is a very happy and caring school. Leaders know pupils and their families well. One pupil, typical of many, described the school as ‘home.’” (OFSTED 2023)

Lilian Baylis Technology School is a mixed, 11-18, inner city school located in a new building at Vauxhall, London. We are a multicultural community school, which serves the local community, and we view this as one of our key strengths. We value the diversity of our school, and strive to ensure that our students feel represented, both at whole school level and within the curriculum.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic colleague to join our talented Humanities team as a teacher of Psychology. The successful candidate will focus on teaching Psychology at A Level, as well as offer a second Humanities subject that they can teach at either Key Stage 3 or 4. This could be RE, Geography, History or Sociology (Key Stage 4 only). This is an exciting opportunity for both a teacher who is at the beginning of their career, or a teacher who is more established and looking for a fresh challenge. We offer a highly supportive and committed working environment within a culture of success. Our CPD provision is extensive and follows a research driven approach, which means that our teachers are at the leading edge of professional practice.

As a school and 6th form we consider ourselves to have outstanding facilities for our students and teachers, including electronic whiteboards and visualisers in all rooms, laptops for all staff and banks of laptops for students to use in their lessons. In addition, teachers have a consistent room base for all their lessons, enabling them to make it a celebration for their subject and students.

Our students are well behaved and ambitious, and they also value the school. All visitors to the school always comment on the calm and productive atmosphere of lessons. Our last OfSTED inspection stated that “behaviour is exceptional”.

At Key Stage 5 Psychology is a very popular subject, taken up by a third of our 6th form (2 classes in each year group). Those students who study Psychology are highly enthusiastic about the subject and usually go on to study it at degree level. Student progress at A Level is also excellent in Psychology, and has been consistently so (usually achieving an ALPS grade of 2 or higher). The curriculum is well designed and resourced and we are highly effective at bridging the gaps between disadvantaged students and non-disadvantaged students.

Further details about the post, including how to apply, are on the TES jobsite.  Go to www.tes.co.uk/jobs then insert Lilian Baylis into the keywords search.
