MPW launched summer programmes in 2022. Our fun and exciting international summer school takes place in both London and Cambridge. In London, students aged 14-17, from all over the world, study with us and reside at our boarding house, Queen’s Gate House.

Summer students study an innovative, high-quality academic programme, with a choice of eight academic streams, including a life skills programme. They also enjoy a packed schedule of social and cultural activities to make the most of their time outside of the classroom, plus lectures and career talks given by world experts and leading university academics in their respective fields.  

The role

We are recruiting dynamic Business, Finance and Economics teachers to teach this exciting academic summer school stream. Due to an increase in demand for this subject, we require additional staff to teach this course. A resource bank is provided; however, the right candidates will have the opportunity to contribute new ideas and bring their expertise to the role. The ideal candidate(s) will have experience teaching A-level Business or equivalent. The classes are small and collaborative.

Accommodation may also be available for the July 1st -12th and July 29th - August 9th groups.

There is an opportunity to teach Eton X life skills sessions in the afternoons for an additional 6 hours per week. 

Main responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality lessons for approximately 3.5 hours each day, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. There is a paid break from 10:00-10:30 am each day.
  •  Provide support and advice to individuals on future degree and career options within your specific academic stream.
  • Write a report on each student at the end of the 2-week programme.
  •  To be punctual, start lessons on time and be fully prepared for each day of the programme
  •  Maintain good order and discipline among the students, safeguarding their health and safety. 
  • Develop a positive and supportive relationship with pupils.

Essential:

  •  Experience teaching A level Business Studies or equivalent (minimally)
  • Degree in a related field
  • Good people skills, cultural awareness, and sensitivity
  • Experience teaching young people and/or teenagers
  • Enthusiastic, friendly, and energetic
  • Fluency in English- written and spoken
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable:

  • Summer school or holiday programme experience
  • Experience advising students on UK university options in this field
  • Industry Experience
  • Teaching qualification 


Our offer

  • Salary: £47 per hour, 2-week minimum commitment
  • 2, 4 or 6-week contracts are available
  •  Lunch is provided
  • Accommodation is available if required for groups 1 and 3.
  • Working hours are approximately 14 hours per week
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 9:00 am – 12:30 pm

Mander Portman Woodward London, commonly referred to as MPW, is one of a group of independent colleges providing GCSE and A-level education for 14- to 20-year-olds. The other mixed, non-denominational colleges are located in Birmingham and Cambridge.

The school was established in 1973 by Robert Woodward, Rodney Portman and Nicholas Mander, which is where MPW gets its name. In 2016, the group was sold by Levine Leichtman Capital Partners Incorporated, a Los Angeles private equity firm, to the education firm Kaplan International.

Mander Portman Woodward believes in giving students as much personal attention as possible, and ensures that there are fewer than 10 students in every class. The college's mission is to work with students to turn their academic aspirations into reality.  It takes students from Year 10 and has a particularly strong reputation for its sixth-form provision.
