Nelson and Colne College are an Ofsted Outstanding College with an excellent local reputation. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a successful team in designing, planning and delivering a high quality provision on our A level English programmes. This provision includes, AS and A2 level English Language, English Literature and Creative Writing. The new post holder will work as part of a team and needs to be a dynamic, forward thinking teacher who, as well as teaching English, will contribute to activities within the English section and wider college team.

The main duties include:

  • Teaching students with a range of abilities and skill levels
  • Enabling students to reach their potential, ensuring they achieve their ambitions and are able to move on to Higher Education or employment effectively
  • Embracing practical, student centred techniques
  • Sparking enthusiasm for English
  • Willingness to contribute to cross-college activities that will promote the English qualification and aid in the growth of the subject area

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a degree in a relevant subject area or appropriate professional qualification
  • Demonstrate a student centred approach to teaching
  • Display a positive and enthusiastic attitude

The post is suitable for an experienced practitioner, a newly qualified teacher, or a trainee teacher and CPD is an important part of the College’s ethos.

About Nelson and Colne College

Nelson and Colne College, located in the town of Nelson, Lancashire, offers further education to 1,600 full-time students and 3,500 part-time adults. The college was founded during the reorganisation of education in Pendle in the early 1970s and created by the merger of several local sixth forms. 

Recent investments have included a £2m engineering facility, an all-weather sports pitch and gym, fully equipped science laboratories, and student study and social spaces. In January 2017, Nelson and Colne College launched a university centre to offer a range of higher education programmes in East Lancashire and beyond.
