Newby Primary School is a multi-cultural school, situated a mile from Bradford City Centre, in an urban area with a tight knit local community.  We enjoy close links with our community and as a result the school is always oversubscribed.  Children traditionally join the nursery significantly behind national average in a range of areas, and make accelerating progress throughout school until they leave KS2 with results that match, or exceed national average.  Ofsted graded the school as Good with Outstanding features in 2013, and commented that ‘Pupils are very proud of their school. Their behaviour towards each other and the adults working with them is exemplary’.

As the majority of our pupils speak English as an additional language, we focus heavily on reading, writing and oral skills.  Evidence has shown that experiential learning is particularly effective for our children, who often lack access to wider learning opportunities that children in wealthier areas enjoy.  Therefore, we focus heavily on providing a breadth of learning opportunities through trips, clubs, sport and arts.  Talk for Learning is embedded within our curriculum, and was particularly praised by Ofsted, and we participate in a range of drama, music and arts projects both alone and with a wider cluster of schools in the immediate area.

We offer a breadth of professional development for teachers at all stages in their careers, including teacher training, newly qualified teachers and opportunities for others to develop their Leadership skills.

We work in partnership with the school’s stakeholders to promote good relationships and a sense of belonging to the school community whilst regarding all pupils as individuals and respecting their rights, values and beliefs.

We take enormous pride in pupils’ learning and want them to do well. To make this possible the school provides a rich, exciting programme of learning. Our school curriculum, developed and delivered through the professional abilities of all members of the school team, gives Newby its own distinct identity and ethos. It reflects a good understanding of, and close partnership with, the wider school community.  This makes Newby an exciting and fulfilling place to work for all our staff.
