Job overview

Required an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher of Drama. The ideal candidate will be able to offer Drama & Theatre Studies to IGCSE level, as well as teaching Drama in the Prep School and contributing to sports and/or activities. St Edmund’s is an expanding and successful school where the age range is extending from Year 8 to IGCSE. The first cohort of Year 9 students started in September 2014 and Year 10 opens this September. IGCSE Drama & Theatre Studies will be pursued and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to help shape and develop the programme going forward. The formal teaching timetable allocation (circa 0.6) reflects the expectation of strong leadership, direction and involvement in off-timetable drama productions across the school age range.

St Edmund’s is thriving with numbers the highest in its 140 year history. Average class sizes are small, circa fifteen pupils. This is an interesting and challenging opportunity to join a successful team during a period of transition. Further general information on the school may be found on the website www.saintedmunds.co.uk.

The school was inspected by ISI in January 2014 and rated “Excellent” in all teaching and pastoral categories. A recent material change inspection by DfE rated the academic provision and planning for the senior years to be excellent.

A combined information and application form may be obtained from Richard Taylor (Deputy Head Academic) by email at rmat@saintedmunds.co.uk or by phone on 01428 604808.

The closing date is Friday 4th September 2015 although earlier applications are encouraged. Applications by email are preferred and interviews will take place in the first half of term.

Please note that the school takes very seriously its responsibility for safeguarding the children in its care and the successful applicant will be required to undergo enhanced CRB/DBS vetting.

Values and vision

Since its foundation in the late 19th century, St Edmund’s has had the same ethos: to instil in every child a sense of self-esteem and belonging by building on their own talents, opening their eyes to new ones and giving them focussed and personal support whenever it is needed.

The school focuses on the individual needs, talents and strengths of each pupil, and aims to help children make use of extra-curricular activities to ensure each one receives a holistic education.

Its academic aims include a commitment to providing a broad based curriculum that reflects traditional values and subjects yet with due emphasis on innovation and modern techniques. The school aims to promote confidence, and to encourage pupils to achieve at a level appropriate to their individual abilities.
