Job overview

The Academy Grimsby is a 14-16 direct entry school operated by the Grimsby Institute. Due to rising numbers, we are looking to appoint full-time members of staff from September 2015.

Suitable for a more experienced teacher, although we would welcome applications from NQTs, the successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and motivated teacher who is keen to teach all abilities within years 10 and 11. Particular subjects that are available to teach at GCSE level include Science, Maths, English, Business Studies, Geography, ICT and RE. The ability to offer more than one subject is desirable.

Specific duties include (but are not limited to)

  • Planning, preparation and delivery of lessons in accordance with department schemes of work
  • Assessment, recording and reporting of pupil progress in line with academy policy and procedures
  • Attending Parent’s Evenings and Open Days
  • Communicating with parents as necessary
  • Preparing students for Public Examinations
  • Contributing to the work of the department including maintaining displays, developing resources and other duties as required
  • Acting as a form tutor
  • Attending staff briefing, department meetings and assemblies
  • Performing duties and implementing the schools policies on sanctions and rewards
  • To carry out such particular duties as the Headteacher may reasonably direct from time to time, in accordance with the Teachers' Pay and Conditions of Service.

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Graduate and/or qualified teacher
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Good understanding of direct entry 14-16 colleges.
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Up-to-date with current media research and developments
  • A commitment to become involved in the extracurricular activities of the School.

The Academy Grimsby is a mixed, selective, non-denominational, pre-sixth-form college situated in North East Lincolnshire. It is part of Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, housed in a building separate from the main college. 

Numbers are limited to 150 students aged 14-16 in each year, in order to maintain class sizes that are no bigger than 18. The Academy Grimsby has offered full-time provision to pre-sixth-form students since September 2014.

Performance objectives set for teachers focus on achieving challenging student outcomes and are managed through the college performance management system.”
