Job overview

We want to appoint a good teacher of Art & Photography for September 2015. This post would suit an experienced or more recently qualified teacher.

As a school our academic results are outstanding. The Howard School is the only non-selective school in Medway, that has consecutively achieved an average of 60% plus 5 A* - C grades including English and Maths at GCSE, in the last three years. We remain one of the best performing non-selective schools in the South East.

Art and Design is very popular at The Howard School with many students opting for GCSE and A level. The academic results achieved are among the best at The Howard, 82% of students achieving A* to C - with over 60% leaving sixth form with A*, A or B. We are very proud of our results at GCSE with 98% students achieving a pass or above in the last academic year. The successful candidate should have the drive and determination to ensure that all students reach their full potential assuring that our high standards can be maintained. All applicants would be expected to show their own creative skills with a portfolio of their own work. Having an ability to teach, and understanding the requirements of Photography, Graphic Design or Three Dimensional Design at A-level or GCSE would be an advantage.

The department is cohesive and supportive who work together to achieve the best for students. This supportive environment is reflected across the school.

‘We are a good school with high staff morale’ (Ofsted November 2013).

We value our teachers and we actively support their professional development. You will have access to on-going professional development including National College accredited courses. A level teaching may also be available for a suitable candidate. If you are looking to extend your experience or are in the early years of teaching and would be interested in joining our team, we would be delighted to hear from you. We offer an extremely attractive and very competitive financial package.

Visits to the school are welcomed. For an application pack please contact the school by telephone or visit the school website. Any queries please contact Sharon Teachen or email hr@thehowardschool.co.uk.
