Job overview

Working within the Creative and Aesthtic Faculty of the school, the teacher will teach and support the learning of pupils in accordance with the policies of the Faculty and the school.    Teaching will consist of classes at a variety of levels from S1 to Advanced Higher  Success in the teaching responsibilities of the post will be determined by the improved learning outcomes, participation and successes achieved by the young people for whom the teacher is responsible. 
 
Requirements

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. You will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Clackmannanshire Council and the cost of this check which will be deducted from your salary.

Alloa Academy is a six year comprehensive school serving the town of Alloa in Clackmannanshire. Its roll is slightly rising with over 800 pupils. It serves the town of Alloa only and has four primary schools associated with it: Claremont, Sunnyside, Park and St John's. It also welcomes pupils from St Mungo's Primary. The school currently has 64.4 teaching staff. The school is truly comprehensive and the pupil intake varies from a very middle class area to an area of severe deprivation.

The school has adopted a positive approach to its pupils and is happy to praise them at every opportunity and is in the forefront of development of positive discipline structures. It has also introduced an assertive discipline policy to all classrooms which combines known and agreed standards with praise and reward. This policy has been responsible for the school winning several awards including the CBI Celebration Bus 2001, Barclays New Futures Awards 2001 and the Scottish Schools Ethos Award 2002/03 and highly commended in the Scottish Education Awards 2005.
