Continued professional development is strong within both teams, with a CPD period on the timetable. The Head of Art is extremely passionate and committed to developing and expanding the curriculum. Photography for example is being introduced in September at KS5 and there is potential to roll this into our KS4 curriculum. You will be encouraged and supported to develop and improve as an individual and as part of the team.

Staffing within Art currently stands at 2 full-time posts where both teachers contribute to the teaching of A-level

Malbank’s Art and Design department strives to develop and foster an inclusive, creative, and purposeful learning environment where all pupils are exposed to a rich and diverse curriculum. Through exploring the work of contemporary and traditional artists, designers and craftspeople pupils through our diverse projects investigate a broad range of techniques and processes to develop their personal ideas and realise intentions. At Malbank we as passionate artists make every effort to ensure that all our learners are equipped with the essential specialist knowledge and skills needed to become enriched, innovative, critical thinking artists.

Due to the popularity of the subject at both KS4 and KS5 we are fortunate to have great facilities to support our teaching; including 2 large classrooms, a designated sixth form study area, photography studio as well as computers with Photoshop to support digital work. We are also currently in the process of expanding our printmaking facilities.

Our results for Art are reflective of the hardworking and caring nature of our staff.

98% of pupils at KS4 in 2022-2023 achieved a grade 4 or above, 92% a grade 5 or above, 29% achieving a grade 7-9 following the AQA Art, Craft and Design specification.

All pupils at KS5 in 2022-2023 achieved A*-B following the Art, Craft and Design AQA specification.

The Technology department is well resourced with a range of equipment including a laser cutter and 3D printer. The approach to learning in Technology at KS3 is very much practical based so a Health and Safety certificate to supervise the use of the equipment would either be required, this can be arranged following appointment if needed.
