Job overview
An outstanding teacher of Biology is required for September 2024 on a one-year contract. The School has a long-standing record of high academic achievement (95% of A-level and Pre-U entries gained A* to B/D1-M1 grades in 2023). There is also much happening in terms of co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to be fully involved in School life.
Biology is a flourishing department with five full time teachers, and is part of the thriving Science Department, which in total comprises twenty-two experienced and specialist colleagues who teach across the age ranges, seeking to instil an enthusiasm and curiosity for science in all pupils. Year 7 (First Form) study Science but from Second Form (Y8) all pupils study the three separate sciences leading to the Edexcel IGCSE 'Triple Award'. Biology is a popular choice in the Sixth From and pupils regularly go onto to high tariff universities to study STEM related subjects, Medicine, Natural Sciences and other closely related disciplines.
The post will involve teaching Years 7-11. The post would be suitable for an ECT (we provide statutory induction) or a colleague with more experience. The post is advertised as a full-time role but we are happy to consider applicants who would like flexible working of one non-working day (0.8)
