Abbey College Cambridge is a leading independent school located in the heart of the historic city of Cambridge.

We are seeking a strong Teacher of Chemistry to join our vibrant and diverse faculty. Our outstanding Chemistry team, 6 strong including a dedicated technician. All lessons operate from well-equipped and modern laboratories and we have an excellent academic record at iGCSE, A level and university entrance. The team offer a wide range of successful STEM initiatives and a large number of students participate each and every year in Olympiads, Cambridge Chemistry Challenge and The Chemistry Race. 


Qualifications and Experience

You should demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Chemistry and have a proven track record of successful teaching and inspiring students. You will need to be an excellent communicator, highly organised and able to manage your own workload.

Ideally you will hold a degree in Chemistry or a related subject and have a PGCE in Education or equivalent teaching qualification. You will be forward-thinking and innovative, exploring ways in which we can further support students and provide opportunities for all of our community to reflect the school’s values. You will be a highly motivated, and creative individual who has a passion for teaching and inspiring students to outstanding achievement.

Checks and Training

• Enhanced DBS checks to ascertain successful candidates suitability to work with children will be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared.

• Online searches will be carried out on candidates for any unsuitable content by or about candidates.

• Two written & verbal references from previous employers and a personal reference will be sought. Referees will be asked about candidates suitability to work with children and whether they know of any disciplinary offences relating to children or young persons and whether candidates have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

• Candidates full employment history will be checked, any significant gaps will require explanation and proof of any relevant qualifications will need to be provided.

• Successful candidates will be required to complete Child Protection Training via e-learning prior to commencing employment.

• Pre-employment health screening will also be carried out.
