Job overview

From September 2024, we have an opportunity for a part-time teacher to join our Classics department.

We are seeking a dedicated, qualified Classics teacher who has undergone appropriate training and is confident in delivering Latin, Ancient History and Classical Civilisation to Years 5–8 with enthusiasm and passion. Latin is introduced in the second year, and some boys pursue a two-year scholarship or Common Entrance Greek course.

We are proud of our excellent reputation; we have wonderful boys and a talented team of supportive colleagues. Although this role is for two days per week, a willingness to become fully immersed in the extra-curricular life of this busy boys’ fortnightly boarding school is essential.

Ideally, this appointment will be two consecutive days per week; however, we will consider other arrangements for the right candidate. In return, we offer a competitive salary, pension scheme, private medical insurance, first-class resources and the very best facilities for teaching and learning.

Further details about the position and school can be found here.

To apply, please visit our website via the ‘apply’ button or via the above link.

Closing date: Noon on Thursday 9th May 2024.

Interview date: Monday 20th May 2024.

Ludgrove is committed to building a truly inclusive school and cultivating a culture of equality, diversity and kindness. We believe that a diverse staff body reflects and supports the diversity of our students and wider society. We are an equal opportunity employer, and in recruiting for our team, we welcome the unique contributions that you can bring.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including an Enhanced DBS check.

Ludgrove is a thriving fortnightly boarding school for boys age 8 to 13, which sits in 130 acres of spectacular grounds and it is a magical place to spend five years of childhood. I feel privileged to be the Headmaster and together with my wife Sophie endeavour to lead the Ludgrove community pastorally and academically. We believe our homely environment provides a wonderful place where boys flourish and realise their potential.

As a school, we are unashamedly ambitious for every boy and are proud of our strong academic record. The boys have a wealth of opportunities: a stimulating curriculum, exceptional facilities and a vibrant extracurricular programme with exposure to music, drama, sport and art. We aim to develop the boys’ confidence in a caring supportive environment, where they are valued as individuals and learn to live as a community. Friendships are made for life and the unique Ludgrove spirit allows boys to thrive in an atmosphere of high achievement, happiness, good manners and kindness.

My family and I feel lucky to live and work in beautiful surroundings with such a talented and committed staff, happy boys and supportive parents. The website can only give you a flavour of life at Ludgrove, so do please come and see us.
