Hermitage Academy occupies a brand new school building and campus (opened Feb 2008) on the northern banks of the River Clyde. The school is built for 1700 pupils and had first class facilities, including a large hall, a separate assembly hall with seating for 300, a superb library, drama studio, recording studio, large games hall, two samller games halls, fitness suite, dance studio, two artifical pitches ; one astro turf and the other is astro grass. It also has the latest in ICT, including data projectors and interactive white boards in almost every room, wireless technology throughout, and is fully accessible for all pupils.

The setting for the school must be one of the finest in Scotland, with excellent views over the River Clyde to the south and is surrounded by woodland and the Lomond Hills to the north.

Hermitage Academy is the largest school in Argyll and Bute and the catchment area includes the town of Helensburgh and the villages of Cardross, Rhu, Shandon, Garelochhead, Clynder, Rosneath, Kilcreggan, Arrochar, Tarbet and Luss.

It also includes other rural areas and it stretches from the Firth of Clyde, to Loch Lomond and as far as the Rest and Be Thankful. Uniquely the school catchment area straddles the Highland Boundary Fault Line and can therefore be described as both a Lowland and a Highland school.

The current school roll is 1400 pupils and over 100 teaching staff.

Hermitage Academy has ten associated primary schools, namely ; Arrochar, Cardross, Colgrain, John Logie Baird, Hermitage, Garellochead, Rosneath, Luss, Rhu and Kilcreggan. The school also has close links Parklands School in Helensburgh.
