Teacher of EAL with French

The delivery of EAL at Ackworth is key to the education of our international students and their development in other subjects. As part of a small team, all of our MFL teachers contribute to the delivery of some or all of our languages. French and Spanish can be offered to KS5. Two thirds of our GCSE pupils achieved a grade 6 and above. We like to play to strengths, and we ensure that as a small school our pupils are taught by the person most suited to their needs.

The role is split between the teaching of EAL, and French to GCSE. The ability to teach A level French and IELTS is desirable.

Ackworth School, a co-educational boarding and day school, was founded in 1779 by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers). It maintains its ethos and traditions and is still governed by the Society. The school is academically non-selective and provides an excellent range of facilities and extra-curricular opportunities, recently achieving "Excellent" in the FCI/EQI (February 2023). The Head is a member of both HMC and the Society of Heads.

As a non-selective school, we offer a broad education that supports all abilities. Our small class sizes mean that our teachers can dedicate more time to deliver a rich curriculum, allowing all pupils to make progress. Our pupils are one of Ackworth's USP's. Many of our pupils, particularly our boarders, have English as a second language. Many access EAL lessons to support their progress. Experience of EAL and working with pupils where English is not their first language, would be an advantage.

In September 2024 we will move to a two week timetable with 5 x 65 minute lessons per day. Teachers will still maintain a generous non-teaching element of at least 4 periods per week out of 25.
