About the Role

City of London Academies Trust (COLAT) is seeking to appoint a Teacher of English from September 2024. TLR is available for candidates with suitable experience and skill set.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (The NCS) was established in 2014 with the aim of educating some of the brightest minds in Newham and East London, with a view to prepare them to attend some of the most competitive universities in the UK and abroad. In its first Ofsted inspection, The NCS was graded ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. Building on this success, and with excellent support provided by the Trust and sponsor, this is a great opportunity to lead our highly ambitious sixth form centre’s philosophy of making a real difference to the lives of young people.


The NCS provides a stimulating education and personalised curriculum within a supportive environment in which students are encouraged to stretch themselves academically to achieve their potential. The NCS offers an academic A-Level Curriculum with a specialism in Science and Maths, alongside strong pathways in Humanities. The A-Level Curriculum and the extra-curricular programme are focused on preparing students for progression to highly competitive universities in the UK and abroad.


In October 2021, Ofsted judged the NCS to be ‘Outstanding’ in every category and said:

About you

The NCS is looking to appoint a knowledgeable Teacher of English with the ability to deliver high quality lessons and achieve excellent results. If you have a passion for English and want to share this with students, then we want to hear from you.

About Newham Collegiate Sixth Form, City of London Academy

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre, also known as The NCS, is a mixed further education institution situated in East Ham, East London. The college has been operating under the patronage of Newham Adult Learning Services; in January 2017, the Department for Education announced that the City of London Corporation would be the new benefactor for the college.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre officially opened in September 2014, providing education for post-16 students. It holds specialist teaching status in biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics, and was judged “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2016. In a recent ALPS report, The NCS ranked in the top 1% of UK schools for value added.

The college is committed to leading students to excellent A-level results by nurturing them with outstanding teaching.

The college offers its own "super-curriculum", which allows students to take part in masterclasses, soft skills workshops and a lecture programme.
