Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join the team at Oasis Academy Sholing

A good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination, and instil a love of the English language.

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Teacher of English with EAL Coordinator responsibilities. This unique role offers the opportunity to inspire and support students in their English language acquisition journey while ensuring their seamless integration into our vibrant school community. As the EAL Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in implementing effective strategies to meet the diverse linguistic needs of our students, fostering a nurturing environment where all learners can thrive. If you are dedicated to empowering English language learners and promoting inclusive education, we encourage you to apply and become an integral part of our diverse and dynamic educational environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ECT or experienced teacher looking to make a difference to the lives of young people. You will join a friendly and supportive team which strives to ensure that all students enjoy their learning and surpass expectations of achievement. If you wish to grow professionally, join us, and become part of the team developing an outstanding academy.

The role and what we are looking for

The successful candidate will be required to teach English Language and Literature at KS3 and KS4 to the highest standard and make a positive difference to Academy life. A willingness to support the Academy ethos and support of extra-curricular activities within the Academy is essential.

You must be able to use a range of teaching strategies to inspire and motivate our students and demonstrate a commitment to sharing best practice with colleagues in the department.

Our academy

We are a very close-knit secondary school community, currently we have a growing student population with over 1050 on our roll. We build strong relationships, enabling our staff to flourish and grow their skills and most importantly feel supported through precise personal development. We want to ensure that all our young people, whatever their starting points or background, get the education they deserve - and they deserve nothing less than exceptional.

Our offer to you

When you join the Sholing family there are a significant number of benefits that make us stand out as an employer of choice. These include but are not limited to:

  • An exceptional CPD offer including fortnightly personalised Incremental Coaching, weekly Academy-wide and department-based CPD and termly Trust-based CPD.
  • A pre-planned, fully resourced, Trust-wide curriculum with the autonomy to adapt for your students - no planning lessons from scratch!
  • A centralised Culture for Learning policy which allows the teacher to teach and students to learn. You will be fully supported too by a superb Pastoral and SEND team.
  • A streamlined, personalised feedback & assessment policy, created to minimise staff workload and maximise student progression.
  • The opportunity to undertake fully-funded National Professional Qualifications and access to Apprenticeship Levy for further professional and academic qualifications.
  • The opportunity to run a weekly extra-curricular club of your choosing, and to share your hidden talents with students!
  • Access to an iPad for all staff / students enabling the use of Formative and other online self-marking assessment resources.
  • The opportunity to further your career within the Trust and region. There are also a range of National Lead Practitioner roles within the Trust which you may also have the opportunity to apply for.
  • Access to Eye Care vouchers and a national Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Access to Health Shield Cash Plan which can include 24/7 access to a GP, assistance with the cost and access to dental treatment, eye-care, physiotherapy, and chiropody.
  • Support to balance your work/life/caring responsibilities via our Time Off Work Policy, Menopause Policy, Flexible Working and Sabbatical Policy
  • Trust wide recognition of the challenges to mental health, facing both staff and students, and the support of our National Mental Health Team which is staffed by professionally qualified Mental Health Nurses.
  • Confidential Counselling services for you and those that live with you, should times get tough.
