Teacher of English – Xi’an Jiaotong Liverpool University Affiliated School

XJTLU-AS requires English language teachers for a new international K-12 centre situated on a beautiful campus in Suzhou, China. The centre is part of a large Chinese private school that has just been taken over by XJTLU, a prestigious university in Suzhou. This is a very exciting time to join the school with new, visionary leadership and plans for significant investment in physical and human capital.

We need flexible, well-qualified teachers with a passion for the subject who can enthuse their students. All our teachers are also language teachers, so you are expected to develop English vocabulary skills in our learners, most of whom are Chinese nationals eventually hoping to study abroad. Our English curriculum follows the Cambridge English programme and we have recently introduced IELTS training in the upper school. A subject leadership position is available for an outstanding candidate. For these posts you must also be a native speaker.

XJTLU-AS offers a bilingual program in the Primary and Middle schools, a Cambridge  IGCSE program in the upper school and we plan to offer A levels from September 2016. Although you may specify your preference for age range in your application, the more able and willing you are to teach throughout the school the better. Experience and/or knowledge of IELTS examinations is a plus. Our motto is ‘Be safe, Be happy and Achieve’, and these values are at the core of everything we do. XJTLU-AS is a boarding school, so all teachers are expected to live on campus and take an active part in the life of the school. There are several important components of the teacher’s duties; the teaching commitment, the boarding duties, which will include some evening and shared weekend duties, break time supervision and a commitment to offer something to our very strong and diverse extra curricular activities programme. Working here is a lifestyle choice and not for teachers who expect to work a standard school day. The rewards for this commitment are excellent. A bachelor’s degree, at least two years teaching experience and a clear criminal record are essential pre-requisites for employment and a work visa. In addition, we would expect most candidates to hold a post-graduate teaching qualification. Experience of working in China would be an advantage.
