EMPLOYER INFORMATION

The British School was founded in 1966 by a group of parents who combined to provide their children with a British-style education. It has grown steadily and now has a roll of 580 pupils distributed on two sites. The main school is situated approximately 12 km from Las Palmas and caters for 440 children aged 3-18. The centre in the south of the island caters for 140 children aged 3-11.

The school is owned by the British School Association which is a non-profit making organisation. The school is a member of COBIS and commits to regular ISI inspections.

The aim of the British School is to provide children of all nationalities with an education and cultural background based on the general lines set in schools in the U.K. We provide an education aimed at achieving high academic standards. Our external examination’s record has enabled many pupils to move into some of the best educational establishments in the U.K., Spain and other parts of the World.

We aim to provide pupils with a wide range of experiences; physical, social, aesthetic and moral, which will prepare them for adult life with confidence.

We aim to produce an atmosphere in which pupils feel secure and happy, and are able to develop relationships based on co-operation and mutual respect with other children and adults.

Location

The British School moved in September 1969 to its current site in El Sabinal which is located on the outskirts of Las Palmas and enjoys delightful views of the adjacent countryside. It can be reached in approximately 20 minutes by car from the city centre. The site has developed to accommodate the School’s growth and is currently in a period of significant redevelopment in order to provide high quality facilities for the school community.

The British School acquired the South School in 1998 in El Tablero. In September 2006 it relocated to its new, purpose-built centre which occupies a site of 5,000 sq metres. It has nine spacious classrooms, a library, a kitchen & dining room and a large interior patio.
