Job overview

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council - Equal Opportunities Employer

‘Everybody doing everything possible to help every student succeed in every way.’

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join a thriving and ambitious department alongside a team of committed, specialist English staff. The post will involve the teaching of English at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with some teaching of English Language or Literature at Key Stage 5 for the appropriate candidate.

Students are obviously at the centre of everything we do. The individual best suited to this post will have the skills to help support, develop and implement ideas within an already successful team. With the changing climate in education and especially in the area of English, it is vital that the successful candidate be someone who is willing to work collaboratively and enthusiastically as well as demonstrating initiative.

You will be:

  • An innovative, effective and inspiring Teacher of English;
  • Able to demonstrate success in teaching Key Stages 3 and 4 to students of all abilities;
  • Passionate about providing every child with the support, tools and capacity to make outstanding progress in all areas;
  • a creative, inventive and dedicated classroom practitioner with a real passion for your subject and the ability to create a stimulating learning environment.

We welcome applications from both NQTs and experienced members of staff.

Swinton Community School is exactly what its name suggests … a school which serves the local community, located in the centre of the community, with a strong sense of community. We are well supported by the Local Authority and have good relationships with neighbouring schools. We are not part of any larger federation or academy chain.

If the thing that matters most to you is working in a modern, award winning, state of the art building stop reading. That’s not us. The grounds are pleasant, extensive and well maintained but the buildings are old and not likely to win any awards. One of our parents said, “It’s not the buildings that matter, it’s what goes on inside the buildings that counts. The quality of the teaching, the warmth of the staff and the support offered by this school is second to none.”

For an informal chat about the post, please ring Headteacher, John Morrison on 01709 570586 at the school.

If you would like to visit the school before applying you would be very welcome but we appreciate that for many candidates this may not be possible and will make no inferences based on whether or not candidates have visited the school.

Closing date: Friday, 1st May 2015.
Interviews are to be held week commencing Monday, 18th May 2015.

Application forms and further details can be obtained from Janet Garfitt Personnel Manager: jgarfitt@scslc.org.uk
