We are seeking a talented and passionate Teacher of English and we welcome applications from experienced teachers and those newer to the profession alike.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding practitioner in English.
  • Be capable of inspiring our pupils to achieve excellence in English.
  • Bring fresh ideas to inspire students and colleagues alike, driving up standards and aspirations.
  • Embrace new technology to make lessons exciting, accessible and relevant.
  • Have the vision, energy and commitment to play a major role in the exciting changes currently being undertaken at The Taunton Academy.
  • Have experience of teaching to GCSE.
  • Be able to deliver English to Years 7 – 11.
  • Be committed to improving Literacy for students of all abilities.

We are looking for a candidate who will contribute to the wider life of the Academy by developing and delivering inspiring extra-curricular activities.

You will join the Academy at a pivotal time in our development as we have recently become part of the Richard Huish Trust. We plan to use our links with Richard Huish College, a highly successful Sixth Form College, to help us to achieve our vision.

We have just completed our major new buildings programme and our facilities include new classrooms and excellent resources. We have purpose built Performing Arts, iMac Suites and Science labs offering facilities that enrich lessons. There is Apple TV in every classroom and all students have an Academy iPad to enhance their learning experience.

We are extremely ambitious and are looking for like-minded people to come and join us in providing an outstanding environment for all of our students.

Pyrland School (formerly The Taunton Academy) is a secondary school (11 – 16), located on the outskirts of Taunton with approximately 830 students on roll. We are rapidly growing in terms of pupil numbers and this is forecast to continue over the coming years until we reach capacity (1200). We are the first academy to have joined the Richard Huish Trust, with exceptionally close links to the Richard Huish College – an outstanding sixth form college at the heart of the Taunton community.
