Job overview

If you are an ambitious and enthusiastic Teacher of Geography this is an exciting opportunity to join a growing academy offering excellent career development opportunities.

Within our Humanities faculty the opportunity has arisen for an experienced Teacher of Geography who can demonstrate thorough curriculum knowledge and teach and assess the subject effectively.

Our Academy is striving to become outstanding and is growing due to a rapidly expanding sixth form and we want to meet the needs of our increased roll. You will be working in a department that is committed to continually raising standards.

Northampton Academy is part of United Learning, a unique group of independent and state schools working together to achieve the best in everyone. Our vision is to provide excellent education so that all young people are able to make a success of their lives and, if we are to realise this vision, we need to make sure we attract, develop and reward the key ingredient – you.

Our academy is transformational for young people and was judged 'Good' in all areas in January 2013. Results have increased dramatically and we have been recognised as one of the top 20% of schools and academies nationally based on our Key Stage 4 value-added score. We are also a Leading Edge school.

Wherever your location, we invite applications from NQTs looking to start an exciting new career or from experienced teachers looking for a new and highly desirable opportunity.

If you are seeking a role which will make a difference not only to our students and the wider community but will also look after your wellbeing and personal development, this is the role for you.

We will offer you:

  • An exciting role in a successful oversubscribed academy;
  • A guaranteed CPD offer which will be tailored to individual requirements;
  • Ongoing professional training and development as well as networking opportunities throughout the group of academies and United Learning;
  • Relocation assistance and allowance will be given where eligible;
  • A health care option for new employees (subject to the specified criteria);
  • A competitive salary, an on-site fitness centre, a bespoke personal development package and a flexible benefit scheme;
  • And most importantly an opportunity to make a difference in the community.

Northampton Academy is a transformational comprehensive and non-selective school, serving a diverse community. We were proud to be judged 'outstanding' by Ofsted in all areas in March 2023. Our values, which underpin every decision we take, are RESPECT, DETERMINATION, AMBITION, TOLERANCE and INTEGRITY. We have a comprehensive student character-building programme, which has been nationally recognised through the Character Quality Mark Plus that was awarded in November 2021.

The leadership of the academy is completely determined to create an environment in which teachers can get on with their core role: delivering excellent lessons.  To this end, the student behaviour system is clear and simple and easy to administer in lessons. If action is needed beyond these simple steps, the pastoral and senior teams take all the burden away from the teachers, conducting detentions, following up and dealing with parents on your behalf. Teachers at the academy speak of this as one of the major benefits of working here. In addition to this, teachers are trusted to be professionals through:

  • A genuine ‘flexi-working’ approach with at least one opportunity a week to come in late or leave early for every teaching member of staff
  • No unannounced observations
  • No lesson grading
  • 3 extra INSET days per year for joint team planning
  • A feedback and recognition policy that lets teachers decide the best feedback mechanism for their own classes, rather than having this prescribed centrally
