Job overview

The opportunity

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to our strong and successful Languages and Humanities team. Politics students at KE6 are consistently highly performing; the exam board is Edexcel/Pearson, currently following the USA pathway in second year. History is currently with OCR, we are considering changing exam board and the successful candidate can be involved in shaping that decision. The ability to contribute to another subject within the department, such as Philosophy and Ethics or Ancient History, would be particularly welcome. This post will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work within the team and contribute to the success and growth of the department. Within the Curriculum Area of Languages and Humanities a high number of students continue to university, many of whom choose a related subject; students participate in a range of opportunities available to them whilst at KE6, including trips to Parliament and the Lessons from Auschwitz course. A willingness to plan and attend trips and contribute to enrichment for the department would be an advantage.

The college prides itself on having supportive, reflective, creative, and ambitious staff who work to achieve the best outcomes for students. We treat our staff and students with respect, listen to both and involve all in our continuous improvement. Staff and student feedback are embedded in our systems.

The person

Attitude, values and mind-set are critical features of all our staff. We want staff and leaders who bring their genuine self to everything they do and want to be involved in every aspect of college life. We want a leader whose ambition for those around them is unlimited and support is unconditional.

Collaboration and sharing skills with other subjects within the team and wider college is encouraged. We require a team-orientated individual who can see the benefits of subject interaction and exploring creative opportunities at every level within the college, BfMAT and the wider community.

The college

This is an exciting time to be joining our high performing Sixth Form College as we develop partnership links across the education sector. We are pleased to be the founding College in the Better Futures Multi Academy Trust with Coventry University, which now includes Bilborough Sixth Form College and Gateway Sixth Form College. Working within a trust environment will be central to every role within the college.

The college has approximately 1400+ students and 140+ staff and is growing.

King Edward VI College Nuneaton is a Sixth Form College that was established in 1974 on the site of King Edward VI Grammar School in Nuneaton. The College now has approximately 1,350 students aged 16-19 years and 130 staff and is growing yearly.

King Edward VI College Nuneaton prides itself on a friendly, personal approach and its ability to maintain a high level of success for all its students.

One of the reasons for the success of the college is that students enjoy studying here, and the proportion of students completing their courses continues to be excellent and amongst the highest in the country.

If student achievement is compared to their achievement at GCSE, calculations using official government measures of what is known as "value added" show our students to be achieving as well or better than would be expected from their starting point.

All our staff are committed to giving students the best possible learning experience in their period in college and we aim to continue in the future the successes achieved by our students.
