Teacher of History with Politics

Part Time, permanent position

With effect from September 2024

Salary: Outer London Main/Upper Pay Range

We are looking for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of History to join a thriving, supportive and successful department.

This post is suitable for either an experienced teacher or an ECT and the ideal candidate would be able to teach Key Stage 3 and 4 history, with the ability to teach KS5 Government and Politics.

History at Hollyfield is a popular subject across all key stages. The department is well established and has a large uptake at GCSE followed by a specific route at A Level. Students enjoy the variety of lessons, the breadth of subject knowledge from within the department and opportunities for extra-curricular activities on offer. Government and Politics is a well established and popular subject at A Level within the school and is taught within the history department.

The Hollyfield School has an extensive CPD programme which offers regular training sessions to enhance teachers’ classroom practice, which are led by all staff from within the school and the wider Multi Academy Trust. The school also offers a very well established ECT programme, in collaboration with our Trust colleagues and The Institute of Education, that supports early career teachers through their first two years in the profession.

Hollyfield is a beautiful school with a thriving sixth form, in the Surbiton area of Outer London. Excellent transport links enable our staff and young people to take full advantage of the wealth of opportunities that London provides, including world class theatres and galleries. We are an ambitious school that puts student achievement and wellbeing at its heart.

In April 2020 we were judged by Ofsted to be ‘good’: ‘School leaders are keen to ensure all pupils achieve their best. Pupils respond well to leaders’ high expectations. There is a distinct sense of community in the school. Pupils grow in confidence and learn to work together well as a result.’

The successful candidate will meet the following essential criteria:

● QTS;

● a broad base of subject knowledge;

● the ability to teach across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5;

● a clear vision for a knowledge-rich curriculum;

● a clear understanding of successful classroom practice and evidence based teaching;

● able to employ a range of teaching and learning strategies;

● the ability to work effectively as part of a curriculum team;

● the ability to maintain good classroom behaviour;

● effective interpersonal skills;

● able to demonstrate suitability to work with children and young people.

The trust provides excellent subject-level support, CPD and Leadership CPD through several programmes externally and within the Trust.
