Job overview

We are an oversubscribed and highly successful school that strives for every student to be the best that they can be, both inside and outside of the classroom. We were judged as good in all areas at our Ofsted inspection (February 2014). Our Governors wish to further improve the provision and outcomes for our students by removing the need for changing school at the age of 14. Following DFE approval for 11 – 16 conversion, our first Year 10 cohort will start in September 2015.

Governors therefore wish to appoint a Teacher of Humanities with drive, energy and enthusiasm, who will assist in taking The Roundhill Academy forward at this extremely exciting time in our development.

We can offer:

  • A good school in all areas of our recent Ofsted inspection (February 2014)
  • A converted Academy Trust in April 2012
  • A change in phase to 11 – 16 in September 2015
  • A strong ethos and culture of support and guidance to all
  • Committed and driven staff, ready for change
  • Enthusiastic students, willing to learn

You will be:

  • A dynamic, inspirational and enthusiastic classroom practitioner
  • Experienced in aspects of Humanities provision in a secondary school
  • Able to recognise opportunities and face challenges, whilst maintaining your sense of humour and care for young people
  • Capable of promoting partnerships and collaborative working
  • A role model for our students and staff

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. Please contact Sonia Pope, Head of Faculty Humanities for further details. The Roundhill Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young students and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake an Enhanced DBS check.

We believe this role offers a unique opportunity to shape a new educational experience within a high performing and already established community.

Closing date for applications is 1pm on Monday 16th March 2015.
Interviews will be held on Monday 23rd March 2015.

Application form and further details are available from our website at www.roundhill.leics.sch.uk

Vision and values

The Roundhill Academy’s motto is "Achieving success through learning together". It seeks to provide a learning environment that suits every individual’s needs. Teachers want students to become lifelong learners who develop the skills, values, character and attributes necessary to become global citizens able to meet the demands and challenges of the 21st century.

The secondary school promotes four key values: reflect, respect, resilience and responsibility. It hopes to help pupils engage with their local and global community and reach their full potential.

The curriculum is broad and balanced, emphasising the core subjects of English, maths and science and matching them with the creativity of music, drama, art and design, and technology. Students also have classes in ICT, PE, humanities and languages.

Ofsted report

“Teaching across the school is typically good and sometimes outstanding. The very good relationships between teachers and students means that students are keen to try new things and respond enthusiastically to the opportunities they are given. Students work hard and listen carefully to their teachers.”
