“An exciting new opportunity working in a new partnership with the successful Thinking Schools Academy Trust”.

The Bishop of Rochester Academy is looking to recruit a Teacher of Humanities.

The Bishop of Rochester Academy has outstanding facilities and is now working in partnership with a successful local Trust, which includes two excellent grammar schools.  In a recent Ofsted report from 2013, it states that Senior Leaders and Governors ... have brought about rapid improvements, especially in overall achievement and behaviour.  Senior Leaders have set up excellent information systems to enable subject and pastoral leaders to monitor students’ achievement and make connections between their behaviour, attendance and the quality of the teaching they receive.  The Academy offers a good and expanding range of vocational courses and, now in partnership with the Trust’s grammar schools, can provide an excellent quality of academic courses.  Other opportunities such as Saturday School and trips abroad provide well for the development of students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.  Equality of opportunity is at the heart of what leaders and teachers set out to achieve.  The Role: This is a key appointment and you will have the opportunity of working with a dynamic and forward looking Senior Leadership Team and Governing Body. The successful candidate will play a major role in ensuring Bishop of Rochester Academy delivers the highest standards for its pupils and builds long-term success. The Humanities department is seeking a passionate, skilful and resourceful teacher to join our conscientious team.

The successful candidate will:-

  • Be an experienced Teacher of Humanities
  • Be an Ofsted Grade 2 teacher or above
  • Be experienced in planning an appropriate and challenging Humanities Curriculum
  • Have experience in building up relevant data on students from transition stage through key stages and adapting the curriculum/provision to meet the needs of students
  • Be an inspiring teacher with real enthusiasm for the subject
  • Be able to motivate students
  • Be committed to high standards for both staff and students
  • Be prepared to contribute to the extra-curricular life of the Academy

The Person:
The ideal candidate will have a degree in the Humanities subject and Qualified Teacher Status.  You will ideally have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a qualified teacher.  Your personal qualities – effective communication and listening, enthusiasm, drive and resilience alongside an ability to relate to and understand the challenges of our community will likely set you apart.

If you are passionate about helping young people reach their potential, ambitious to be the very best of teachers and are excited by the thought of cutting edge curriculum development, we’d love to hear from you.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  Offer of appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure (DBS) and satisfactory references.    If you have any queries relating to the above position, please call HR on Tel:  01634 303005.

Please complete the application form and send with a covering letter detailing specific experience and skills for the post and provide details of subjects and keys stages that you are qualified to teach within Humanities and any second subjects.  Please send the letter and completed application forms to: Bishop of Rochester Academy, Magpie Hall Road, Chatham, Kent, ME4 5JB, or e-mail to louise.buchanan@boracademy.org, quoting the appropriate reference for the post.

About The Victory Academy

We are privileged to work in a stunning learning environment with excellent resources. One of our many strengths is having a strong programme of arts education, including a Platinum Artsmark award which is held by less than 1% of schools in England. We are also an accredited Thinking School.

The Victory Academy has strong links with the local community enabling us to draw upon a strong and rich local culture to support the personal development of young people. Naval links feature strongly in our vision for the school, we describe this as the ANT triad; Arts, Naval and Thinking.

We are focused on providing an education for all. Our belief is that each person is unique – every member of our community has gifts and talents that we seek to grow and channel. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum geared towards ensuring that our students will achieve their academic potential regardless of their starting points, and be dynamic members of society when they leave the Academy.
