Job overview

Selby High School is an extremely popular, over-subscribed, mixed, 11-16 comprehensive school with over 1100 students on roll. Our popularity within the local community is a result of a persistent drive to provide first-rate educational opportunities, high quality provision and outstanding results for all our students.

We wish to appoint a passionate, forward thinking and proactive teacher of literacy and English; someone who possesses the ability, drive and desire to deliver outstanding lessons and interventions and who takes great pride in crafting creative and inspiring learning experiences for students. Someone who believes they can make a difference to the lives of young people. This role would suit either a KS2 or KS3 specialist teacher.

The successful candidate would join a highly effective group of teachers working in the English and Social Sciences Faculty and will be required to teach English at Key Stage 3, with a particular focus on ensuring the progress of Pupil Premium students. You will also be required to deliver interventions for students with low literacy levels and to teach small groups of Pupil Premium only students across all year groups. This is an excellent opportunity for a creative teacher to become an integral member of a successful team in school.

The successful candidate will:

  • be an inspirational teacher who has a belief in the ability of all students to achieve and be successful
  • be someone who is committed to raising achievement
  • be a highly competent and enthusiastic classroom practitioner who can engage students in their learning
  • make a difference to the life chances of all our students
  • passionately buy into the school's 'can do' culture
  • embrace the change agenda
  • engage with new technologies
