Job overview

St Alban’s Academy is an outstanding (Ofsted 2011) Church of England Secondary academy, serving the Highgate community in central Birmingham. It is sponsored by Ark and also plays a central part in a thriving and supportive hub of schools in Birmingham. Recently the school has moved into its iconic, award-winning new building, and opened a sixth form.

The academy staff shares an unwavering belief that every student, regardless of their starting point, can go on to university or purse the career of their choice. We have already made significant steps towards realising that target: progress for all students is in the top 1% nationally and attainment has risen from 31% gaining 5A*-C grades including maths and English in 2009 to 65% in 2014.

We are now looking to appoint a dynamic and inspirational Maths Teacher. This is a unique opportunity to join a community of staff striving to maintain and continue to create an outstanding education for all of our students. We are looking for an individual who will contribute to our Maths department in order to ensure high attainment for our students.

Maths is a popular post-16 subject at St Albans Academy, with a substantial number of students opting for A Level Maths and Further Maths. We are in the top 1% of schools in the country for value added in Mathematics and achieved 80% A*-C last year at GCSE at first entry with all students taking GCSE Mathematics at the end of Year 11.

The department takes a very holistic view of students’ development and works relentlessly to overcome barriers to learning. The principal, with his senior leaders, sets very high expectations and ensures that they are realised through rigorous monitoring and support systems for students and staff.

We welcome applications from NQTs as well as more experienced teachers. TLR opportunities may be available for experienced candidates. The successful candidate will have the relevant experience for the post, the drive and enthusiasm to inspire others and an absolute belief that all children can – and will –achieve.

Visits to the school are strongly encouraged - to arrange this, please contact Katie Roberts on katie.roberts@stalbansacademy.org and 0121 446 1300.

For an informal discussion about the post please contact Rachael Bemrose on 0203 116 6345 or Rachael.Bemrose@arkonline.org.

Closing date: 11am on Wednesday 6 May
Interviews: Monday 11 May 2015
