“Celebrating Learning; Celebrating Success; Celebrating the Arts” is a strong statement of intent but Thorns Community College needs to establish itself at the heart of its community and generate, through high quality teaching, more success to celebrate.  It must be recognised for its excellent work in all areas of education and for its focus on all aspects of learning.  Everyone who belongs to Thorns Community College is a learner.  The only distinction is where each of us is at on our learning journey.

An institution where learning comes first and will be the sole focus of all lessons with a constant emphasis on maximising learning time and potential.  Fundamental learning skills amongst all students will be a key foundation to developing life-long learning, which will be transferable to all lessons and situations.  Everyone, adults and students alike, is on a learning journey which has been personalised, routed and mapped out just for them.  This will be evidenced by an innovative professional development programme and forward looking curriculum which will empower all learners and encourage them to be active, independent participants in the learning process.

A centre of excellence and specialism for both training and the Arts where our facilities, experience and skills are used to promote and further these areas.  In the Arts, we will become a focal point and local leader, reaching out through collaborative work and partnerships with the community.  In training, we will be at the forefront of developing and sharing good practice to the benefit of all learners.
