Job overview

The City of London Academy Islington was judged by OFSTED in March 2014 to be a ‘Good’ school overall, with Leadership and management graded as ‘Outstanding’. At COLAI, we are totally committed to providing the absolute best for the young people of Islington. We firmly believe all students can succeed and we work to inspire a determination within the Academy for all to achieve the highest of expectations.

Our 2014 summer examination results are the best the Academy has ever had. Almost 50% of our Advanced Level entries secured an A*-B pass grade and over 60% of our Year 13 students have secured a place at University. Our GCSE results doubled from 2012 to 2013 and our 2014 results are higher still, with 70% of our students achieving the highest grades of 5 A*-C passes including English and Mathematics.

Our Ofsted 2014 reads:-

  • “Students’ behaviour in lessons and around the Academy is calm and polite”;
  • “Attainment is rapidly rising. The proportion of students obtaining five or more GCSE grades A* to C including English and Mathematics has nearly doubled in the last year”;
  • “In the words of a number of those associated with the Academy, the Principal provides ‘inspirational’ leadership. The whole community feels that the vision of an outstanding Academy is becoming a reality.”

In order to help us deliver our vision we are looking for a hardworking, energetic and innovative Teacher of Mathematics to join our strong Mathematics team. We are looking to appoint an “excellent practitioner”, who is committed to ensuring children are supported regardless of gender, ethnicity and religion, helping them to achieve and enjoy learning to the best of their ability. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in supporting the Curriculum Leader for Mathematics and other colleagues within the Mathematics department.

We offer a comprehensive professional development programme, which includes induction; an “Aspirant Outstanding Practitioner Programme”; a Masters cohort; bursary scholarships; secondment opportunities to the Senior Leadership team; and opportunities to benefit from Academy to Academy partnerships.

We have two exceptional sponsors; The City of London Corporation and City University London, who have first class track records in supporting education in urban areas and who are part of a shared vision and determination to deliver success.

The City of London Academy Islington is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS check is required for all successful applicants.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Curriculum Leader for Mathematics.
