Job overview

Full-time or part-time (0.5+)

An able and inspiring Mathematics teacher is required for this core department. The department has a commitment to innovation and is currently a partner school with the Cambridge Mathematics Education Project working on new A level resources. This opportunity is for an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate who is capable of teaching Mathematics and Further Mathematics to A Level and beyond. We are looking for a teacher with imagination, commitment and ambition to challenge students to enjoy Mathematics and who has the insight and enthusiasm to convey the intricacies of this subject in an engaging and adventurous way. Ability and drive are key factors but experience of teaching at A level is desirable.

With a good honours degree in Mathematics from a leading university you should be accustomed to or capable of guiding students of the highest ability. You should be familiar with IT and its use as a tool for learning, teaching and administration and be prepared to develop your skills further. This subject is an important and highly successful aspect of Ashford School. Interest amongst the students is high and there is a large and increasing number of pupils opting for Further Maths at A level.

Teaching takes place in six dedicated, well-equipped classrooms. All teaching rooms are equipped with permanent internet access and interactive whiteboards and Maths staff all have their own iPads. Responding to the needs of the individual student – be it preparing for examinations in after-school classes or guiding the most able through Oxbridge problems – is at the heart of the department’s ethos.

The salary for this role is negotiable and depends on the skills, attributes and qualifications of the successful candidate. Approved arrangements are in place for Newly Qualified Teachers or graduates wishing to train; applications from both are encouraged. The school provides extensive opportunities for employees to develop personally and professionally.

Teachers at Ashford enjoy a welcoming, comfortable and well-resourced environment and are provided with assistance from a range of support staff. All teachers act as tutors and are expected to contribute to the extensive, co-curricular life of the school including weekends on occasions. This wider contribution is an essential element of the life of boarding and day pupils at the school.

For further information and to apply please contact Mrs Anne Rylands, Head’s PA, Ashford School, East Hill, Ashford, Kent, TN24 8PB (Tel No 01233 739032, e-mail rylandsa@ashfordschool.co.uk).

Please specify your preference in your application for a full time or part time position.

Closing date: 12 noon on Thursday 19 March.
Interviews will be held w/c 23 March.
