Job overview

Honley High School is rightly recognised for its long-standing tradition of academic excellence and for its friendly, inclusive, caring approach to the needs of young people. We are very proud of what we do here, proud of our record of student and staff success, and proud of the young people our students become over the time they spend with us. In 2014 the achievement of our students gained us recognition as being the highest performing non-selective school in Kirklees. We have over 1200 students and work hard to ensure that we get to know all of them as individuals, so we are able to support them through this crucial time in their lives.

We are now seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Mathematics to join our dedicated, successful and well-resourced Mathematics department. We welcome applications from both NQTs and experienced teachers. NQTs will receive a tailored support package, to enhance professional development and teaching and learning practice. The successful candidate will teach both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, and will teach a full range of classes across the curriculum area. You will participate in the planning and preparation of the schemes of work and appropriate syllabus, and participate in the regular monitoring, assessing and recording of students’ work, consistent with Curriculum Area and whole school policies.

The successful candidate will join a team committed to delivering a stimulating curriculum and maximising the potential of all learners through outstanding learning and teaching. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a track record of high quality classroom practice (either in teaching practice or in current post), a strong team ethic, and knowledge of the curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4.

Maths is one of the school’s strongest departments and has an excellent reputation for student outcomes. Furthermore the department is at the forefront of developing Learning & Teaching within the school. The successful candidate will be expected to share the team’s drive, ambition and reflective practice.

Honley High School has a strong reputation locally for academic excellence. In 2014 in Maths, 83% of our pupils achieved A*-C grades.

Honley is within easy reach of Leeds, Sheffield and Huddersfield, and the school offers an outstanding NQT induction programme.

The successful candidate can expect:

  • A supportive and friendly team of experienced maths teacher with an established track record of delivering excellent GCSE results.
  • A commitment to their further development through a well-structured CPD programme, including a tailored support package for NQTs.
  • Motivated students who are eager to learn and engage in lessons
  • The chance to work with teachers and middle leaders who are relentless in their drive to deliver the best learning experiences to their students. This will include the opportunity to contribute to pedagogy and schemes of work within the department, as well as share in the best practise of other schools.

This is an excellent opportunity for a forward thinking and ambitious teacher to become part of a large and successful team which values high standards of academic achievement whilst developing the knowledge, skills and qualities needed to help students thrive in life and work.

For further information and to apply, or to organise a visit to the school which are encouraged and warmly welcomed, please contact Paula Read at Hays Education on Paula.Read@hays.com or telephone 0113 200 3710.

The closing date for applications will be 12 noon on Monday 1st June with interviews being held week commencing 8th June 2015.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Vision and Values

Central to everything we are working to achieve is the school vision. We are striving to create an exceptional school where all members of the school community:

  • Are proud of the school, respectful of each other, socially responsible, and believe in and promote our values
  • Work within an atmosphere of mutual support, respect and collaboration
  • Are committed to individual and collective success and place no ceiling on aspiration
  • Celebrate effort as well as achievement, take risks and learn from mistakes, recognising the intrinsic value of learning
  • Place the needs of the child at the centre of learning, nurture their creativity in overcoming the challenges of today and develop their resilience to address the uncertainties of tomorrow

The exceptional school that we will create will be founded upon the following beliefs:

  • We believe in fairness, equity and inclusion: we value every child for who they are and show compassion and understanding in our dealings with one another
  • We strive for excellence in everything we do: we have high aspirations for everyone and believe that children and adults thrive in a climate of praise, celebration and recognition. We always measure ourselves against the highest standards
  • We believe in working together to protect the interests and well-being of all members of our community

We value working in partnership with others and in September 2019 we joined with four other schools in Kirklees and Calderdale to form the Together Learning Trust. This multi-academy trust, which replaces our previous Co-operative Trust status, has been founded on the principles of Integrity, Creativity and Excellence. Our expectation is that by working together as a family of schools we will be able to provide even greater opportunities for our learners and greater access to professional development for our staff.  We are pleased that many of our previous Co-operative Trust partners agreed to transfer across to support this new venture and are continuing to work with us to develop our children into well-rounded and socially responsible young adults.
