Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a full time Teacher of Spanish and German who is able to teach one subject to A-Level and the other to at least Key Stage 3. This could be any combination of the two subjects.

The position is suitable for either a teacher who is in the early stages of their career (including recent graduates) or one with more experience who is seeking to develop in a new and stimulating environment.

Spanish and German are both popular subjects at Ibstock and sit within the Languages Faculty, which also includes French, Latin, Mandarin and Classics.

There are typically three to four classes of Spanish at IGCSE and one to two classes of German. Numbers at A-Level remain strong, with double-digit numbers of pupils in next year’s Lower and Upper Sixth for Spanish and steady numbers for German which buck the national trend. Ibstonians regularly go on to study Languages at university.

We have a strong record of excellent examination outcomes at both IGCSE and A-Level and are an experienced, friendly and collegiate Languages Faculty of sixteen teachers and Foreign Language Assistants across all of the subjects offered.

The Spanish Department offers an annual trip to pupils in the form of a host family stay in Salamanca as well as a cross-curricular Sixth Form trip to Barcelona and this year, for the first time, a Year 9 trip to Valencia, while the German Department provides a Year 8 Christmas markets trip to Vienna and a biennial trip to Munich for Year 9 and 10.

We also offer a wide range of co-curricular experiences within school such as taking part in, and hosting, debating competitions against other schools, daytrips to study German and Spanish cinema at the BFI, cookery sessions carried out in the target language and competitions such as Translation Bees.

This post will commence 31 August 2024. This is a term time only role, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:00pm, with a six-month probationary period. Further information on the role is set out in the Job Description.

Ibstock Place School is an independent co-educational day school for pupils aged 4 to 18. The school occupies a ten-acre site on the edge of Richmond Park in South West London.

An urban location with a beautiful botanical feel, Ibstock is the perfect home for scholarly exploration and adventure. Championing co-education since our founding in 1896, we have created a diverse environment that reflects real-world communities and workplaces.

Our school is over subscribed, with assessed entry at the age of four for Kindergarten (Reception). There is a competitive entry examination at the age of eleven and most pupils in the Prep School proceed on into the Senior School.
