Job overview

Contract term: Fixed term (one year) with possibility to extend for the right candidate.

Hours: Part-time – approximately 0.6 – 0.8 FTE

The role:

We require a committed and enthusiastic Teacher of PE who can teach a full and varied PE programme to a high standard on a part-time basis from September 2024.

We are particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have the experience and ambition to take on the role of Head of Netball, although this is not essential. Please request further information if you feel the Head of Netball role is right for you.

Strength in Netball and one or more of the school’s other major games (hockey / cricket) is important. Equally important is the ability to deliver high quality PE lessons across the activity range within the curriculum.

There may be opportunities to teach GCSE, A Level or IB PE for the successful candidate. Commitment to our extra-curricular programme, including Saturday sport is essential and a desire to extend girls’ opportunities by participating in and leading trips or tours is advantageous.

We have a range of facilities at the school that support a full programme of clubs and an extensive fixtures list, both after-school and on weekends. The appointed candidate would be expected to coach after-school and be involved with the weekend fixtures and competitions.

About the department

The department is led by the Director of Sport and consists of a full-time Head of Prep PE, a full-time Head of Academic PE teacher, a full-time ECT teacher, and one part-time PE teacher. There are also specialist sports coaches who lead a variety of different sports or physical activities on our games programme and a Sports Graduate Assistant.

All pupils are strongly encouraged to participate widely in sports and/or physical activities. There is a full programme of competitive sport, which runs alongside a physical activity programme, to ensure that we cater for all pupils’ interests. Commitment from the pupils is very high, with a steady stream of pupils being selected at County, GDST Select teams, Regional and even National levels.

The school’s major sports are hockey, netball and cricket, and the minor sports are cross-country, swimming, football, athletics, and tennis. All pupils have 1hr of PE (except Sixth Form) and a 2hrs Games session per week. In addition to this, there are numerous clubs available to all and a Strength and Conditioning programme for our Sports Scholars. For Academic PE at GCSE pupils get 5hrs a fortnight, at A Level they get 10hrs a fortnight and for IB they get 8hrs a fortnight.

Our PE department is a passionate, competitive, high performing team with a forward thinking and innovative attitude, and we are looking for someone who can contribute to the already high standards within this area. This is a great opportunity to teach within a dynamic department and work with motivated and enthusiastic students.
