If you are, or are looking to become an outstanding Performing Arts teacher, we would very much like to hear from you! We are looking for an all round practitioner and team player. You will join an excellent team and Department. This could therefore be a great opportunity for a teacher who is looking to move into sixth form teaching from secondary teaching.

At Queen Mary’s College we understand the importance of recruiting skilled and well-qualified staff to maintain excellence in all that we do. We are committed to high-quality, innovative education and student support services and pride ourselves on our welcoming, supportive and friendly environment. We never stand still and our best keeps getting better thanks to the dedication, enthusiasm and commitment of our team.

Situated in 23 acres of leafy grounds, Queen Mary’s College is an inclusive, vibrant and high achieving sixth form college with a fantastic reputation both locally and nationally. Value added data places us in the top 10% of all A- level providers.

The Performing Arts Department aims to; strive for excellence and innovation, be authentic, be exciting, inspiring and to engage and ensure a positive and inclusive experience for all students. The team enrich the learning experience of our students by delivering the syllabus in a manner which is contemporary, varied and challenging. The department benefits from its interdisciplinary approach which encourages cross-department collaborative learning.

The College has a commitment to making Performing Arts accessible to as many students as possible. At present, approximately 300 students are participating in the Department’s wide range of courses.  Our provision aims to meet the varying needs within the student population from those whose primary aim is to study a Performing Arts subject, to others who wish it to form part of a broader programme of study. The examined courses on offer from September 2024 are:

  • UAL L3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Performing Arts
  • UAL L3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Production Arts
  • A level Drama and Theatre
  • A level Dance
  • UAL L3 Diploma in Music
  • UAL L3 Extended Diploma in Music
  • A level Music
  • A level Music Technology

We also offer a range of non-examined courses from Audition prep to Playwriting (in conjunction with the National Theatre).

The Department benefits from the presence on site of Central Studio. This is a purpose-built, small-scale studio theatre that serves as a teaching and performance space. The close working relationship between the Performing Arts Department and Central Studio provides students with unique performance opportunities and access to collaborative work with large numbers of professional companies, artists and technicians.

QMC has invested in the performing arts by building a new Music Centre which was completed in October 2013. The Charles Butler Building, opened by Dame Evelyn Glennie, includes a new recording studio, recital room and six practice rooms as well as being fully equipped with the latest sound and recording technology meeting the needs of the music industry and enabling students to learn the correct use of technical equipment, specific to their chosen career.

Our priorities are to maintain and extend our examination success and to maintain high levels of student satisfaction and achievement. We seek to ensure that we provide students with a high-quality experience of learning that is innovative, interesting and challenging and helps them acquire the skills and knowledge essential for their progression. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher to join our outstanding team and be part of our friendly and supportive environment.
