Job overview

Kilgraston School seeks to appoint a suitably qualified, dynamic and enthusiastic Religious Education Teacher. Religious Education is a core subject at Kilgraston which all Junior Years, Fourth Form and Sixth Form pupils study. Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) is taught to Advanced Higher Level, with all Fifth Form pupils expected to take the National 5 course.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain positive professional working relationships with all colleagues, both teaching and non-teaching, within and out with the school, with the aim of maintaining a positive and caring education ethos.

We are seeking to appoint a committed Catholic educator who has a broad vision, an understanding heart and high aspirations for their pupils. They should be open and approachable in matters of faith and assist our students as they journey to self-knowledge.

This is a full-time position and there is flexibility within the role to concentrate solely on teaching RE and RMPS, or to adjust the timetable so that there is the opportunity to also provide chaplaincy within the school. Please indicate in your application what your preference would be.

Introduction

Kilgraston is a leading independent boarding and day school can accommodate up to 300 pupils from 5 to 18 years.  It is located in 54 acres of stunning parkland in Bridge of Earn, three miles from the centre of Perth. The school has an outstanding record of academic achievement.

With high pupil numbers, Kilgraston is investing for the future.  In recent years the school has undertaken an impressive development programme. New additions to the school include: a bistro style dining-room, a 150 seat theatre, major refurbishment of boarding accommodation, a new sports pavilion and a 25m indoor swimming pool complex. The school has also introduced hockey, tennis and swimming academies to further enhance the extensive range of extracurricular activities. Our latest developments are a new Science Centre and Sixth Form Centre, both completed in summer 2013.

The Mission

Kilgraston is a Catholic school with an ecumenical tradition and, as a member of the international network of Sacred Heart Schools, has a strong sense of community which is maintained through the hard work of every member.  The School has traditionally attracted pupils from around the world with pupils coming from countries such as Mexico, Spain, Germany and China.

Kilgraston is guided by the principles of the Sacred Heart:

  • Faith relevant in the world today
  • Personal growth
  • A deep respect for intellectual values
  • Community
  • Social awareness

The Campus

The Senior School classrooms, including the bespoke music rooms and fully updated ICT facilities, sit alongside the elegant Georgian mansion, which is at the heart of the campus. High standard boarding accommodation, interconnected to the main building, is provided for pupils from the age of 8 to 18, with a separate boarding house for sixth form. There are residential staff in each boarding area.

The most recent Care Inspectorate report praised the excellent standard of the pastoral care -
an achievement staff and pupils are rightly proud of.
