Located in the seaside town of Weymouth, Dorset, Wey Valley School is a co-educational secondary school and sports college. With around 800 pupils aged 11-16, Wey Valley is smaller than the average secondary school of its type, and an economically diverse catchment area is reflected in its student intake. Although the vast majority of teaching take place on site, a small number of pupils make use of off-site education provide by external providers, offered through the Chesil Education Partnership. A Co-operative academy, the school converted to academy status in 2012, but is not part of any formal multi-academy trust.

Values and Vision

Wey Valley takes great pride in its comprehensive ethos, and works hard to ensure that all of its students have access to proper opportunities and experiences regardless of background. This is achieved through the school’s wide-ranging and engaging curriculum, as well as its dedicated student support centre. The centre provides targeted support to students with Special Educational Needs, helping them engage with the curriculum. Outside of the classroom, the school works hard to provide a series of extra-curricular activities, including water-sports through the school’s own Will Mackaness Trust, a registered charity named after a former pupil.

Ofsted

“The governing body is now well placed to support and challenge senior leaders. It has actively developed the knowledge and skills necessary to make the best decisions for the future of the school.”
