Job overview

Homewood School is “A good School in all aspects” OFSTED October 2012.  It’s a title we are proud of and are striving to improve upon and to further boost our students’ academic achievement.

We wish to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational teacher who is passionate about teaching science. At Homewood School we encourage using a range of innovative teaching techniques in our modern facilities to gain excellent relationships with our students. Our large science department teaches a variety of subjects and qualifications up to Key Stage 5. It is essential that the successful candidate is a team player who is keen to develop both themselves and the students in their classroom - both NQTs and experienced teachers are welcomed to our supportive department.

Our additional facilities are excellent; with a School Farm to promote conservation work, green issues, environmental science and curriculum enrichment through forensic sciences and dissection.  The department also has a rich programme of trips, visits and extra-curricular activities.

In return, you will enjoy a unique working environment in the heart of the Weald of Kent, discounts and offers with Kent Rewards and ongoing training and support to help you excel and develop your career as a teacher.  All teaching staff are provided with an Apple device and there is also a nursery based on-site which offers discounts to Homewood Staff.

You’ll need to impress us from the outset so please do not apply if you’re not prepared to invest in your application. It’s a competitive market out there and we want to know what it is that makes you the one we should invest in. Detail your successes in your covering letter and get us excited about you!

About Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre

Homewood School & Sixth Form Centre is a mixed 11 – 18 wide ability school with Academy status with 2,100 students including 350 in the Sixth Form. We are part of Tenterden Schools’ Trust working in collaboration with local primary schools serving the Wealden town of Tenterden and the surrounding villages. The school is situated on the edge of Tenterden and enjoys a large semi-rural site overlooking open countryside.

Homewood has excellent facilities for all its students and our specialisms in Performing Arts, Applied Learning and the Rural Dimension underpin our approaches to learning which are designed to raise achievement across the whole student body. We aim to maintain and develop the cultural aspirations of the school community in line with our priorities of “belonging” and “respect” and offer a broad range of curriculum opportunities in all subject areas. This also extends into the local community through partnerships across primary, secondary and higher education sectors as well as non-educational community partners.

Homewood provides a secure and caring learning environment in which all students can flourish and succeed. It is a school renowned for its support for students’ wellbeing. Consideration and respect for each other is central to our work.  We are immensely proud of the achievements of our students and are committed to enabling all to reach for individual excellence.
