Reading Girls’ School is a multi-ethnic, single-sex, foundation school with partial selection, situated in South Reading. We welcome girls of all abilities and incorporate a selective stream in each year group for academically high achievers.

The school is set in grounds of 15 acres and was selected by the Education Funding Agency for the Priority School Building Programme. We are looking forward to transferring to our brand new, state of the art school built on our existing site in October 2016.

About our School

The school was placed in Special Measures in December 2015. This was a huge disappointment but we are taking swift and decisive action to address the issues raised by Ofsted. The governing body, teaching and support staff are all committed to ensuring we return to our previous ‘Good’ grading as soon as possible.

Classrooms are very harmonious and students work well together. The Inspection also found that Reading Girls’ is a well-ordered school with considerate and respectful students displaying positive attitudes to their learning. All students are encouraged to attain excellence and the school aims to challenge and motivate the girls. Good qualifications, independence, confidence and the ability to communicate effectively with others are essential for adult life.

Reading Girls’ School works closely with many partners such as our collaboration with Kendrick School. Within the school site we have the Northumberland Training Academy designed to provide vocational opportunities for post-16 students.

Reading Girls’ School strives to continue further improvements. Our aims are…
  • To build a creative and enterprising community that can respond to challenge and embrace change.
  • To inspire all to achieve their best in their academic, social, moral, spiritual, technological and entrepreneurial development.
  • To ensure all members of the school community are empowered to become active lifelong learners with high aspirations for themselves and others in the global community.
  • To create a vibrant learning environment where all are secure and encouraged to make healthy life choices.
