Stromness Academy is a six year secondary school in Orkney with a catchment area covering the town of Stromness and the West Mainland. The current school roll is approximately 360 pupils. The school is on a well appointed campus situated in Stromness. The school serves a dispersed population and over two thirds of the pupils are bussed into school. This Community School was built in the early 1980s and has been kept in excellent condition and is extremely well resourced. Classrooms are well equipped and the school has extensive playing fields, including a synthetic grass pitch, and access to the local swimming pool.

We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher. You will be fully committed to the learning and teaching approaches of Curriculum for Excellence, and enjoy working within a dynamic team. You will be keen to contribute fully to the achievements of all pupils in this Community School.

Salary will be based on the SNCT Salary Tables plus a Distant Islands Allowance.

You must be registered, or in the process of registering, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

About Stromness Academy

Stromness Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form in Scotland serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Orkney has approximately 374 students on record.

Stromness Academy opened in the 1870s. It was rebuilt and moved to it’s current site in 1990. Additional facilities have been added in recent years, including a music department and synthetic sports pitch – which is shared with the local primary school, Stromness Primary School.
