Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, well qualified teacher of science to join a well organised and resourced department, alongside a team of committed, specialist science staff (three technicians and nine teachers, all with their own dedicated labs). Ability to teach physics at Key Stage 4 would be desirable but strong applications from candidates with other specialisms will be considered. All students in Key Stage 4 take a minimum of two GCSEs in science. Approximately a third of students study triple science. The school does not enter any students for BTEC science courses. For an appropriately qualified and/or experienced candidate, the post would include teaching physics at Key Stage 5. Results in science (attainment and progress) are consistently above national average. Applications are welcome from NQTs and experienced teachers.

Swinton Community School is exactly what its name suggests … a school which serves the local community, located in the centre of the community, with a strong sense of community. We are well supported by the local authority and have good relationships with neighbouring schools. We are not part of any larger federation or academy chain.

If the thing that matters most to you is working in a modern, award winning, state of the art building … stop reading. That’s not us. The grounds are pleasant, extensive and well maintained but the buildings are old and not likely to win any awards. One of our parents said, “It’s not the buildings that matter, it’s what goes on inside the buildings that counts. The quality of the teaching, the warmth of the staff and the support offered by this school is second to none.”

For an informal chat about the post, please ring Headteacher, John Morrison at the school.

If you would like to visit the school before applying you would be very welcome but we appreciate that for many candidates this is not possible and will make no inferences based on whether or not candidates have visited the school.

Closing date: Friday, 15th May 2015
Interviews to be held on: Thursday, 21st May 2015
