The school takes its pastoral responsibilities very seriously recognising that happiness is as important as academic achievement.

The school complies with National Curriculum requirements but is always looking at how it can adapt to change to provide the best curriculum for its students.

The school is situated on a pleasant site in the inner suburbs of the city of Plymouth, about two miles from the city centre. There are four brick built buildings including a new purpose built Mathematics and Psychology block, one modular building housing four language classrooms and two temporary huts.

Meals are cooked and served on site by school staff. The dining room seats approximately 250 students.

The majority a sixth form students are girls but a small number of boys are on roll and a number access course from across a consortium. The school works in collaboration with four other neighbouring schools within a consortium to provide choice beyond the traditional qualifications already offered in the Sixth Form. Pastoral care and academic mentoring is responsibility of the form tutor who refers to the appropriate Head of House or Head of Sixth Form.

Students in Years 7-11 wear a school uniform. Sixth formers dress in a neat and tidy manner wearing appropriate casual clothing.

The Senior Leadership Team comprises the Head Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher, three Assistant Head Teachers and a Business Manager. There are approximately 60 teachers (mixture of full and part-time) and 40 support staff (full and part-time).
